Amazon Photos alternative
PicVaultPro vs Amazon Photos
Amazon Photos gives Prime members unlimited full-resolution photo storage. PicVaultPro is for the photos you want encrypted on your device first, with face recognition off unless you turn it on.
Face recognition: on by default vs opt-in
Amazon’s terms say that when its people-tagging feature is on, Amazon may keep facial records to group similar faces, that the feature turns on automatically when you first use the service, and that the records are kept until you turn it off or close your account.
In PicVaultPro, face grouping is off until you turn it on. When you do, photos are analyzed in memory on PicVaultPro’s servers, and the face data is deleted when you turn it off.
Where Amazon Photos is the better pick
- Storage value: unlimited full-resolution photos with Prime, and 1 TB for $6.99 a month.
- A mature ecosystem with web, desktop, Fire and TV apps.
What PicVaultPro can and can't see
Your photo and video contents are encrypted on your device before upload, and we can't read them. We can read metadata: file names, capture time and location, file type and size, and the album, tag and people names you create. Optional face recognition runs on PicVaultPro's servers. Full details are in our privacy policy.
