The Encryption Difference

Google Photos encrypts your data on their servers, with their keys. This means Google employees with sufficient access privileges can technically view your photos. It also means if Google is hacked, your photos are exposed.

PicVaultPro encrypts your photos in your browser, with keys derived from your password. For photo and video contents, our servers receive only ciphertext, so even a complete server breach exposes data that is computationally infeasible to decrypt. Metadata such as file names and capture location is readable by us. Optional AI face recognition is the exception.

Who Should Use Which?

Choose PicVaultPro if you:

  • Have intimate or sensitive photos you want truly private
  • Don't trust Big Tech with your personal moments
  • Want encryption you control, not Google
  • Need a hidden vault with SMS verification
  • Share photos with a partner and want revocable access

Choose Google Photos if you:

  • Prioritize convenience over privacy
  • Need cross-platform sync (Android, Chromebook, etc.)
  • Want built-in photo editing
  • Need more free storage (15 GB vs 1 GB)
  • Use Google's ecosystem heavily
  • Don't have sensitive photos to protect

The Bottom Line

Google Photos is a great product for everyday photo management. But if you have photos that are truly private — intimate moments, family photos you don't want anyone else to see, or content that could be embarrassing if leaked — Google Photos is not designed to protect those. PicVaultPro is.

Your keys. Your photos. Google never gets in.
