Sarah's Family
238 photos · encrypted
A familiar story
Sarah was reorganizing Google Photos when she noticed it.
Under “Explore,” Google had already labeled her 4-year-old's face, named the grouping, and linked it to every photo going back three years. She hadn't asked for this.
Google labeled her daughter's face. Automatically. No consent asked.
She searched for a way to remove the facial data. There wasn't one.
Every birthday, school play, and playground moment — fed into Google's AI.
That weekend. Encrypted on her device. Her keys. Her kids.
The honest comparison
Where your family's photos actually go.
“Encrypted” means different things on different platforms. Here's what it means in practice.

AI Is Optional
Face recognition is your choice.
What you get
Privacy for the photos that matter most.
Zero Data Mining
Face recognition is optional.
Your photos and videos are encrypted on your device before upload, and we can't read their contents. The exception is optional AI face recognition. When you turn it on, photos are analyzed in memory on PicVaultPro's own servers. Face data is encrypted with a key we hold, separate from your vault key, so we can technically read it. Some information is readable by us: file names, capture time and location from photo metadata, file type and size, and the album, tag and people names you create. Account details such as email and billing records are readable too.
- No facial mapping by third parties
- GDPR and CCPA compliant by design
AI That Stays Yours
Smart albums. Private infrastructure. Your control.
Opt-in AI face recognition groups your family photos by person — like smart albums. But unlike Google, this AI runs on our private servers. No Google. No Amazon. No third parties. Disable it anytime: all biometric data is permanently deleted.
- Opt-in only — off by default
- Runs on private PicVault infrastructure
- No third-party AI APIs (no Google, no AWS)
- Disable = permanent deletion of all embeddings
